![]() ![]() The new features were presented by Craig Federighi, the senior VP of software engineering. The first beta of macOS High Sierra was released to developers shortly after the keynote of the 2017 Worldwide Developers Conference on June 5. Presented by Craig Federighi at WWDC 2017. Development and releaseĪpple’s new version of macOS is called High Sierra MacOS Catalina (10.15) would mark the completion of Apple's transition to 64-bit technology and no longer support 32-bit applications. This app needs to be updated by its developer to improve compatibility." macOS Mojave (10.14) would be the final major release to even run 32-bit software at all. Starting with the update to macOS 10.13.3, launching a 32-bit application would display an alert that it "is not optimized for your Mac. Deprecation of 32-bit supportĪpple notified developers that High Sierra would be the last version of macOS to run 32-bit applications "without compromise". This requires using a patch to modify the install image. It is possible to install High Sierra on many older Macintosh computers that are not officially supported by Apple. iMac: Late 2015 27" or later, Mid 2017 21.5" or newerĮxternal graphics processor support requires a Thunderbolt 3-enabled Mac:.HEVC hardware acceleration requires a Mac with a sixth-generation Intel processor or newer: MacOS High Sierra runs on the following Macintosh models with at least 2 GB of RAM and 14.3 GB of available disk space: FaceTime, supports capture of Live Photos from streaming video.Mail Search, is improved with more options.Spotlight, adds flight tracking features.Siri, supports preference learning for music and is more tightly integrated with iTunes, and text to speech is improved.Safari, now contains Intelligent Tracking Prevention, the ability to disable autoplay, site-based browser settings, site-based always-on reader view.Photos, adds an expanded sidebar, improved organization tools, integrates with advanced editing tools, supports more Memories modules and live photo editing tools, and included People/Faces.Integrated VR support, contains support for creating, editing and interacting with VR media.Metal 2, adds a newer version of the graphics display system, which supports VR and extended GPU functionality at higher speeds.HEVC, adds support for a much more efficient H.265 video codec.New APFS file system, also introduced in iOS 10, replaces the decades-old HFS+ drive format with a modern replacement. It does suck that you’ll most likely need to leave it with them for a day or two, but I’m with you I hate Windows so much that I’ll tolerate this as a necessity. But until Apple does something sane, like a removeable filter that we can dust or wash off or something, by all means, bring your computer in regularly and force them to work on it. If you can prove it’s intentional, perhaps you could even prove it’s criminal. Because there’s nothing wrong with the hardware of the system, they won’t charge for it. It might have been a hard drive that died while it was under AppleCare warranty (which of course they replaced for free), but in the course of talking to the tech I learned that they will clean out the computers at no charge. I forget what originally prompted me to bring it in. I discovered this one time when I brought a Mac in for support. So here’s something that I think should be more common knowledge.Īpple will clean your iMac for you. In a nutshell, you’re in a wait and see situation, not a buy or upgrade situation. Apple is still fickle about driver support, even on ARM machines. Apple doesn’t care about anything that isn’t ARM based. Support is lacking on Blizzard’s end and on Apple’s end. New hardware doesn’t guarantee better performance as these forums have shown. Odds are pretty good it’s either Big Sur or ARM going forward. Mojave isn’t slated to be killed off just yet by Blizzard, but it will likely not be supported by the next expansion. ![]() ![]() Less impact on your existing software (you can still run iPhoto for example). Third, Mojave may be a better choice than Catalina on older systems. So if you run High Sierra, you will have problems and Blizzard officially won’t be fixing them. Mainly because of issues with the game that they have decided not to address. Second, High Sierra is being depreciated first. Typically the cut off officially is imposed when the next expansion roles out. First of all, it’s just a warning that support is ending soon, it’s not actually blocking you from running the game. ![]()
